In an almost unimaginable ‘coincidence’, two days after I (re)posted Sir Ken Robinson’s 2006 TED presentation on learning and creativity, I received a notice of this poignant, funny follow-up to his fabled 2006 talk.
Sir Ken Robinson makes the case for a radical shift from standardized schools to personalized learning — creating conditions where everyone’s natural talents can flourish.
Does that sound familiar?
I want to know what you think of Sir Ken’s video. Most of you are likely out of school by now.
But consider how the principle of ‘personalized learning’ combined with the internet and other technological innovations has created revolutionary new opportunities for you.

Steve, I’m glad that you gave this great video. I saw this some time ago and had been exciting to hear Sir Ken Robinson. We need new idea, interesting teacher, well educated, funny, charming. Having good teacher is essential.
Thanks for sharing this video. In more than one way it reinforces the value of homeschooling.
(I haven’t read all the comments but FYI, it’s William Butler YEATS.)

I am already familiar with Sir. Ken and his TED Talks and I absolutely think he is amazing, funny, down-to-earth, and bang on the money. I am one of those “types” who often asked “why am I doing this?” – I was successful but not happy for 25 years in the same industry. I have now found what I want to do, partly inspired by Sir Ken. I want to work with teenagers to help them focus on their dreams. I have spent the last year and a bit skilling up with NLP and Hypnotherapy and next month will launch my own dream – finallly! I am so excited and know that with the right intervention young people will have the tools to make the choices that are right for them, not their parents or their teachers.
Thanks for sharing this.
I am a visual learner and this is really great for me! thank…. thank….thank u for sharing this with the global community! blessings
Dear friend. My partner and i actually just like that post and also the site all in all! The write-up is actually really plainly created and without difficulty understandable. The WP theme is amazing as well! Would definitely be awesome to learn where I are able obtain that. If possible hold up the excellent job. We all require even more this sort of webmasters such as you on the web and much less spammers. Wonderful man!
Steve,
Thank you for this wonderful video. I am reminded of a Hindi Bollywood movie called “Three Idiots”. Well, Sir Ken is right when he says that we must bring in the revolution and not just the evolution. But the million dollar question is Who’ll do that? And how many people will buy that idea? We need to change the whole system of employment and our mindset before that happens. It is possible to do so but we need to inspire all our students into this line of thinking. The spark is provided by Sir Ken. But we need to inspire a generation of students who in turn will spread the innovative idea which the whole world needs to accept. I am ready to help you if you initiate such a venture.
This is why I like hanging out at your Blog,Mr. Little. Thank you.
Truley said by Sir Ken Robinson. The education model needs to be altered drastically…
We need to change our taste of fast food & have to get it customised for our children who are growing brains.
MY TAKE AWAY- We need to get students opt for specialization beginning Std-7 itself. That’s the age when they can decide about thier dreams & career ahead. And the parents & teachers can always help them with the same.
Wow, do I resonate to that poem and this talk! Many years ago I graduated from Reed College in Portland, one of the few universities then or now that develops critical thinking, original thought, and inexhaustible thirst for knowledge. But the most important thing I learned wasn’t in a class room. Even decades later, I remember the exact place and time and exactly what I discovered. I was waiting on some stairs for a girl I knew to meet me. I was wondering to myself what was “really important in my life”. I remember the answer, soft, deep, utterly convincing: “Love, knowledge, and creativity.” I had nothing in my education before or during those years to teach me this. How did I know this? Why did I, being taught to be so intellectually critical, believe these words that came to me? I cannot answer why I knew they were true. But I know now that when something FEELS true in my heart, it IS true for me. Love, creativity, knowledge have proven to be the three guiding values in my life for over forty years. My life does not always integrate all three; usually one or more are compromised for a time, but I always know it. It is true that our educational system fragments us, as does our society generally. We are living in a time where information has replaced knowledge, where texting replaces face-to-face relationship, and we lead “virtual” lives. I shudder when I see a child in a baby carriage with a cell phone in its hands already, its naturally shining eyes glazed over.
He is, of course, quite right. But the problem I see is of massive scale: How do we teach the parents to “dis-enthrall” themselves so that they may teach their children that their passions are truly worth following? Perhaps, as so often in history, the children themselves will teach their parents. This at least, is what I hope will occur.
Thank You Steve,
I can relate to what Ted is saying as the “formal” education route did nothing for me but teach me the basics. I can add, subtract and read and write. Nothing else seemed to penetrate. I have the same problem with my children, they are bored to death at school. Instead of feeding their passions and building them up, I have been told too often that they are a problem and need to be on drugs. A visit to drugs.com will show any parent how dangerous these supposed “safe drugs” are. My children have had their dreams trampled and their hopes for the future dashed as they are free thinkers and do not fit the mould. Who needs that high paying job if it kills your soul a little every day that you are doing it? Who needs a life of misery just so that you can pay the bills at the end of the month? I agree totally that the education system needs a complete revolution. Children are people too and they deserve the best that we can give them.
much love
Debbie

I THANK YOU STEVE THAT WAS REFRESHING BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT WE NEED in all schools for they are tomoorws adults …HAVEN’T WORN A WATCH FOR YEARS FIVE AT LEAST LIKE KIDS XXX LOVE IT FREE SPIRIT ..ESTELLE
This is an awesome video and unfortunatly too true. It’s my opinion, that our education system doesn’t support our natural talents but instead surpesses them, trying to fit us into what they feel is what we should do when we grow up. There is no encouragement to pursue our dreams no matter how out ragous they may be.
The obsession with education needs to stop as well because there are a lot of unhappy people running around because they were told that if they didn’t go to school they would’t amount to anything or they wouldn’t get that high paying job. We are told at a young age that our dreams are nonsense and that they will never come true. Or at least that’s what I was told. These are my opinions.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for this wonderful video, I really loved and totally agree with the message.
Sir Ken Robinson way of presenting his message to the audience is very direct, effective and at times also very amusing.
Take care…
bravo bravo bravo what more can i say
Awesome video! He has simplified an incredulous problem which needs to be solved and I can see where changing our system today can have a huge impact on tomorrow! Thanks Steve.

Hi Steve,
That was a very moving and funny talk and I totally and completely agree with everything Sir Ken said. Our children cannot all be the same, nor should they be. They are a unique creation, as we are, and should be treated as such.
Hi there
I work in a university and in its Career Centre so this challenged me to question what I do and how I do it. And what we do to help our students to do what they want to do.
Mina
I tend to believe the video.
Dear Steve,
As always, I will first start by thanking you for all the info you share freely. It has meant the world for me lately and it has launched me on a new path professionally – I am now doing something for the first time in my life that I really enjoy and feel all my capacities are engaged in serving others for their highest good (as I perceive it). Now, thank you for your posting Ken Roinson’s talk. It made me cry for joy, thankfulness and hope. People like you and him keep me up on my feet in my environment giving me the vital encouragement I need to go on.
Hi Steve,
I enjoyed this presentation very much. The education has to change and of course the internet will be a big help.
Discovering whoy you are and what you can is important.
But also necessary are the fundamentals – the basics that you can find in every religion and as the diamonds in the works of great philosophers, artists, musicians etc.

HI Steve,
This video is absolutely wonderful and resonates very much with me. Another I have watched recently is this one with Daniel Pink http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc which I also find very inspiring.
Thanks!
Blessings to you,
Anne
Sir Ken is absolutely right about how to change education. Our civilization requires that we do it. If we don’t, the long night of the Dark Ages will return. We can no longer say that as business owners, we are not concerned with how schools are run. We must engage with the rest of the public, and what happens.
We also must recognize that every business is likely someone’s dreams. If we assist them, we must not be cruel to them
Steve,
Thank you . . . as always. A wonderful message that may influence viewers to, among other things, view the context of their own lives more holistically – with an appreciation for questioning default beliefs that we may have long taken for granted. This in turn holds promise for making course corrections of strategic significance through affecting decisions of higher quality that correspond to such improvements in perspective.
Thank you very much Steve! I totally admire Sir Ken and I listened to his first video with so much pleasure and admiration. I did not know this video and I enjoyed it thouroughly, the gentle way he talks, his humor and wisdom….he is just a wonderful example of a “life teacher”. I loved the poem from Yates and I do remember still very well when they stepped upon my dreams and left me hanging in the air…not knowing what else to do and certainly not fulfilling my potential which was so full of passion and joy…… but because I was a girl it was not appropriate or useful.
I love your mission statement and I am thankful to you!
Oh my God! This man has put in such a wonderfully funny and poignant way what I believe with all my soul – not just that our educational system snuffs out all but the most resilient and resourceful hearts at a very early age, but that all hearts and minds struggle to escape the monotonous, uninspiring and soul-killing lives that we are funneled into so that the great corporate dynasties can continue spewing out their stuff and convincing us we can’t live without it. Despite that, it’s easy to see that awareness is changing and quickly evolving on the planet, so there is hope. Thank you Steve, for bring Sir Ken’s presentation to my attention.
